The Doha-based carrier started introducing Starlink, which is part of Elon Musk¡¯s SpaceX, on its B777s in October 2024 and has now fitted the high-speed internet system on 30 aircraft, more than 50 per cent of its entire B777 fleet.
This rate of progress is around 70 per cent ahead of the airline¡¯s initial planned timetable for introducing Starlink on B777s. It has been achieved by reducing installation time from 2-3 days to under 10 hours per aircraft.
It also means that Qatar¡¯s entire fleet of 57 B777s will be fitted with Starlink by the end of the second quarter of this year.
Qatar Airways Group CEO Mohammed Al-Meer said: ¡°We are delivering on our commitment to provide our passengers the best in-flight connectivity at an unprecedented pace.
¡°In just four months since launching the world¡¯s first Boeing 777 Starlink-equipped flight, we have already installed this ground-breaking service on 30 aircraft - far exceeding our initial targets.
¡°Starlink wifi is a game-changer for our passengers who will soon enjoy uninterrupted connectivity on even more routes.¡±
Several other airlines are also introducing Starlink onboard their aircraft this year including AirBaltic, SAS, United Airlines and Air France.
