UK-based foreign currency provider Spendology has launched a new
initiative called Clean Currency, which provides UK travellers with brand new,
sterile banknotes in euros and US dollars bundled in small denominations to
reduce the need for change while spending abroad.
The travel trade and TMCs are being invited to partner with
Clean Currency to provide sterile cash for clients getting travellers back on
the road. The company is also offering the product at cost for travel
professionals to use for their own business trips.
Spendology orders new euro and US dollar notes, which are
delivered in mint-sealed bricks. Staff wearing personal protective equipment
and working in a sterile area then hand count the notes and create bundles of
250, which are made up entirely of five and ten-denomination notes, according
to the company. These bundles are then placed into tamper-proof packaging and
sealed, which the company said will immediately reveal if a bundle has been
opened or interfered with. Each bundle will have a serial number in case of a
query.
When a customer places an order, the number of bundles they
require are dispatched to them directly using Royal Mail Special Delivery
service, which is fully insured and trackable. Each order also includes four ¡®quarantine
envelopes¡¯ for times when change is unavoidable. Customers can hold open the
envelope and ask cashiers or wait staff to put their change inside to be sealed
and either taken home or given to charity.
Karen Gee, marketing and business development director of
Spendology, commented: ¡°Cash generally and foreign currency in particular is
considered to be especially dirty. Companies have a duty of care to their teams
while they are away, and virus-free cash provides travellers with another level
of reassurance.¡±
