The Hungary-based budget carrier is to add routes from Venice,?Milan Malpensa, Rome Fiumicino and Pescara airports later this year.
Venice will see the largest expansion with Wizz introducing seven new destinations this winter as the airline bases a third Airbus A321neo aircraft at the city¡¯s airport. The new routes from Venice will be to Bordeaux, Larnaca, Tallinn, London Luton, Valencia, Tel Aviv and Kutaisi in Georgia, which all start between 1-3 December.
Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, corporate communications manager at Wizz Air, said:?¡°The new connections from Venice, along with those from Malpensa, Fiumicino, and Pescara, are not just a network expansion, but a tangible testament to our investment in Italy and our dedication to serving a growing demand.¡±
The carrier is adding five routes from Milan Malpensa to Alicante, Brasov, Glasgow and Seville, starting on 26-27 October, plus Cluj-Napoca in Romania from 29 March 2026.
Wizz will offer three new routes from Rome Fiumicino to Bordeaux (from 28 October), Glasgow (27 October) and Brasov (27 January 2026) this winter, while a new service between Pescara and Iasi in Romania starts on 9 December.
The expansion comes as rival Ryanair, which is the number one airline in Italy based on capacity, plans to increase total seats this winter in Italy by 10.3 per cent year-on-year to nearly 16.9 million for the season, according to figures from aviation analyst OAG.
Wizz Air is also expanding its winter operations in Romania by adding 15 new routes from Bucharest Otopeni, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi and Brasov airports.
Additional destinations from Bucharest will include Berlin, Prague, Bordeaux, Faro in Portugal and the Finnish city of Turku during the coming winter season.?
Wizz's expansion plans in Europe come after the airline decided that it would suspend its operations in Abu Dhabi from 1 September.
