The carrier will operate four times per week on the new route using Airbus A330-800neo aircraft, which has 258 seats across economy, premium economy and business cabins. Flights will operate on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Jonathan Pollard, chief commercial officer at Gatwick, said:?"This new route not only strengthens our position as a key gateway to Africa but also supports our vision of fostering economic growth and connectivity, particularly among new markets across Africa, Asia and the Middle East.¡±?
There have been no direct flights between the UK and Uganda since British Airways ended flights in late 2015.
Gatwick, the UK¡¯s second busiest airport after London Heathrow, wants to develop more routes in Africa and was boosted by the arrival of Ethiopian Airlines in November 2023.
Jennifer Bamuturaki, CEO of Uganda Airlines, added:?¡°This new London route marks a major milestone in Uganda Airlines¡¯ expansion strategy and reinforces our mission to connect Uganda to the world.¡±
