German*s main hub airport suffered a dip of 0.9 per cent in passenger numbers during the first three months of the year, but traffic rose by 3.1 per cent year-on-year during Q2 to reach 16.7 million, as Frankfurt enjoyed growth for four consecutive months up to the end of June.
For the first half of the year, Frankfurt saw overall passenger numbers rise by 1.4 per cent year-on-year to 29.1 million passengers. This increase came despite traffic to the Middle East falling by 7.8 per cent year-on-year to 1.4 million during this period, which included the 12-day war between Israel and Iran in June.
More positively, traffic between Frankfurt and North America remained ※stable§ at 4 million travellers during the first half of 2025, while passengers flying to and from Latin America rose by 2.8 per cent to 1.2 million.
Stefan Schulte, CEO of the airport*s operator Fraport, said: ※There is potential for this current growth momentum to be boosted even further if the German government acts rapidly to implement measures set out in the coalition agreement that would relieve some of the burdens faced by our industry.
※These and further steps are essential to prevent Germany*s aviation sector from falling even further behind our international peers.§
Schulte added that Frankfurt had improved its operational efficiency, with punctuality levels for passengers passing through the airport returning to pre-Covid levels.
※This demonstrates that our measures have been effective: thanks to the introduction of modern technology at security checkpoints and bag-drop facilities, long wait times for passengers are now largely a thing of the past, even during peak hours,§ he said.
Fraport also operates airports in Greece, Turkey, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Peru and Brazil 每 overall group traffic in June rose by 5.5 per cent year-on-year to reach 19.9 million passengers for the month.
