Heathrow airport has started the process of closing Terminals
3 and 4 due to a fall in passenger numbers caused by the coronavirus outbreak
and travel restrictions.
Flights will be consolidated to operate from Terminals 2 and
5 alongside airlines that already use those facilities. From Thursday, Cathay
Pacific, Emirates and Pakistan International Airlines will temporarily relocate
to Terminal 2. Further carrier moves will be announced over the coming weeks.
In a customer notice on its website, Heathrow said: ¡°It is
very important that those passengers who are using Heathrow for essential
travel keep in touch with their airline to confirm which terminal their flight
departs from before travelling to the airport.¡±
Earlier this month, the airport announced it was closing one of its runways after passenger numbers fell 52 per cent in March. It expects passenger demand to dip by more than 90 per cent in April, but is maintaining operations to transport cargo, including vital medical supplies, into the UK.
