Low-cost carrier Easyjet has announced it plans to restore
50 per cent of its route network in July and 75 per cent in August as it hopes
to capitalise on potential demand during the busy summer season.
The airline normally operates 1,022 routes, but it grounded
its entire fleet in March as the coronavirus pandemic gripped its home market
of Europe. It will initially restart domestic flights in the UK and France from
15 June but will resume services across the continent starting in July,
including from all of its UK bases.
Flights will be operated at a lower frequency equating to
around 30 per cent of Easyjet¡¯s normal July to September capacity. Routes to
reopen will include Paris, Milan, Rome, the Balearics and Canary Islands, as well
as other popular destinations in Italy, Croatia, Portugal, Egypt and Morocco.
It comes as Italy reopens its borders and countries such as
Spain and Greece prepare to lift quarantine requirements for international
visitors.
Easyjet said it will follow health guidelines from the
International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the European Union
Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), including requiring all passengers and crew to
wear facemasks, enhanced cleaning and disinfection of aircraft and no food
service during flights.
