The scale of hotel development globally has reached a ※record high§, with nearly 16,000 new properties in the ※pipeline§, according to industry data specialist Lodging Econometrics.

The company*s latest hotel construction report shows that these projects would add nearly 2.5 million rooms if they all go ahead. Currently around 6,250 projects are under construction adding just over 1 million rooms worldwide.
Europe accounts for 10.6 per cent of these new hotels, with 1,690 developments in the pipeline adding a potential 250,000 rooms to the continent*s inventory. Just under half of these European projects (744 hotels) are already being built, which will add more than 112,000 rooms.
The US and China dominate the list of the countries with the highest number of new hotel projects. The two nations account for more than 10,000 hotels or 64 per cent of total projects worldwide. The ※big two§ are followed by India, Saudi Arabia and Canada.
Dallas and Atlanta in the US are the cities with the most forthcoming new hotels (199 and 165 projects respectively), with Chengdu in China in third place globally.
In Europe, the UK leads the way with 282 hotel developments 每 Germany, Turkey, France and Portugal make up the top five across the continent.
London is the European city with the highest number of new hotels in the pipeline (79 projects) followed by Istanbul, Lisbon, Tashkent in Uzbekistan and Dublin.
Lodging Econometrics said that 970 hotels opened in the first half of 2025, which added a combined 138,000 rooms globally. Nearly 1,900 properties with a combined 280,000 rooms are scheduled to join them in the second half of the year.
